Monument to Otto Herman in Lillafüred, Miskolc
The monument to Otto Herman in Lillafüred depicts a great scientist with birds. The authorship of the sculpture belongs to Varga Éva, who also created the Attila József. Both attractions can be seen in the Hanging Gardens of Lillafüred, near the castle-hotel "Palota". In a few meters you will also see the highest waterfall in Hungary (20 m) – Szinva, on the river of the same name.
The Hungarian ethnographer and zoologist Otto Herman was born in 1835. After he returned from Norway, where he studied bird's mountains, the government instructed him to prepare scientific materials for the upcoming event – the second congress of ornithologists, which was planned to be held in Budapest. To do this, the scientist opened stations to observe the flying birds. Based on the obtained results, the "Hungarian Ornithological Central Institution" was opened, in which Otto became the head of the department.

In the area of Miskolc Lillafüred, bus number 5 goes to the castle-hotel. In addition, from the Diosgyor district you can come here by narrow-gauge railway.
