History of the dog Mancs
Mancs was born in 1994. He was a very clever dog and he was sent to the school of search dogs. There Mancs became an excellent student. He possessed an extremely developed ability to find people under tons of debris in zones of earthquakes and explosions.
Together with his owner, László Lehóczki, the dog participated in rescue operations in India, El Salvador, Egypt, Colombia, Italy and Venezuela. One of his exploits is the rescue of a three-year-old girl Hatira Kaplan, who was under the rubble for 82 hours.
Mancs died because of pneumonia in 2006. In 2015, rescuers were awarded a prize of the European Parliament for a 20-year work of saving lives. Hatira Kaplan witnessed the event and visited the statue of her hero in Miskolc. People carry flowers to the monument of the great dog till this day, and tourists rub the "happy" nose for good luck.
