Gral Winery, Miskolc

Gral Winery is without exaggeration, the unique institution of the city of Miskolc, where you will taste the wines and dishes of Hungarian cuisine. It began its existence as a home wine cellar with artfully decorated hand carvings with Hungarian motifs, and became one of the most popular and visited places in the city.

Legend and concept

The history of the wine cellar begins with its founder Attilla Duksai. "Gral" is the embodiment of a child's dream, which, thanks to the diligence and support of relatives, exceeded all expectations. From the small stone cellar of his house, Attilla Ducsai made a huge dungeon with his own hands, the walls of which are adorned with symbols carved on stone and ornaments of Hungarian folklore and even statues of people in full growth. Here everything is thought out to the smallest detail in order to correspond to the spirit of the Middle Ages. Even the title refers us to the story of the legendary Grail, which was sought by more than one generation of followers of Christianity. The symbol of the Grail – a cup with wine – is depicted on the emblem of this wine cellar.

First of all, you need to go to the "Gral" to try real, vintage Hungarian wines. It's possible to spend the whole evening tasting, because there are a lot of types of this luring drink. The wine is served with cheeses, fried bread and other light snacks. Food lovers can eat a hot dinner. It will be something meaty and traditional.

Interior and exterior

"Gral" is a place where the outer shell does not tell you anything about the institution, because the main thing here is hidden from people's eyes underground. For the first time after seeing this village house with a lovely balcony, it is very difficult to believe that under it there is a huge stone cellar full of wine. In the dungeon, everything is arranged simply and simultaneously exquisitely. The long tables and benches hewn from the tree are covered with hand-made tablecloths, and each wall is a small work of art of carving. Everything here is made by the hands of Attilla, and therefore there is no sensation of a damp and cold cellar. On the contrary – here you feel at home.

How to get there

The wine cellar "Gral" is located in the Miskolc district of Görömbölyi, near Tapolca. From bus station Búza-ter you can go to Tapolca by bus number 2.
