History of Hamori Lake
The artificial lake was created in the 1920s, during the intensive development of the metallurgical industry in Hungary, which was in great need of water sources. The reservoir was formed with the help of a dam that blocked one of the rivers in the region. Over time, the lake lost its original purpose. Between 1932 and 1944, it was allowed to swim in the lake.
In the 1930s, with the opening of the Palota Hotel, it became possible to sail boats on the lake. In winter the lake was used as a skating rink. Today it is forbidden to swim in the lake, but you can rent a boat or a catamaran.
