Békás Lake, Miskolc

Walking around Tapolca, the district of the Hungarian city of Miskolc, you can see a romantic and quiet place – the Lake of Frogs (Békás Lake). It will be good to have a picnic with the whole family, or even a romantic date. The Békás Lake is located in a former crater with about five thermal springs. The temperature of the "coldest" is 36 degrees, and the hottest is heated to 47. As a result, the water in the lake seems to boil, creating small bubbles on the surface.

The high temperature of the water attracts frogs and colorful small fish, they can be seen even with the naked eye. But the special beauty of the lake is attached to the water lilies, which cover its entire surface. From a distance the lake looks like a floral carpet. Benches are installed around it, and while sitting on them you can enjoy the local beauty and evening "songs" of the frog’s choir.

In the center of the lake there is a stone-fenced island, to which a small bridge leads. The locals call it the "Island of Love". There is even a belief that a couple who sets foot on an island will never part again.

How to get there

The Békás Lake is located in the park of Tapolca district, not far from the city center. To get here you can walk on foot, or take the bus number 2 from the station Búza-ter.
