Sacelláry Castle, Budapest
Sacelláry Castle in Budapest is a beautiful building in Art Nouveau style. It is located in a quiet cozy corner in the south of the Hungarian capital. Surrounded by a garden, the palace is in very good condition, which cannot be said about the neighboring Törley Castle. Going inside, you will fall into the fabulously rich and beautiful world of tycoons of the beginning of the last century.
History of the castle
The beautiful palace was erected in 1895–1898 by order of banker György Sacelláry for his daughter Irén. Even earlier, in 1885, she married a wine-making tycoon József Törley. His estate was built a little later in the neighborhood. After the death of the owner, the mansion became the property of her brothers. They sold it in 1926 from an auction to the state. In 1927, the hospital was located here, which gradually transformed into a sanatorium.
In 1987 the building was bought by a private entrepreneur. He took up the capital restoration of the estate, supervised by the designer Harrer Cézár. In 2002 the castle was opened.
Present state
Impressive appearance of the castle is even more amazing, when you go inside. Modern renovation was made taking into account the original appearance of the building. The main material of the interior is wood. Stairs, railings, parquet, furniture – everything is made from natural wood. With a closer look, you can notice a lot of pretentious carvings and ornaments on the wood.
The original stained glass windows created by the famous master Miklós Róth were preserved. Gypsum tiles also remained untouched. And in the big hall you can see the carved emblem of the Sacelláry family: the swan inside the shield.
Around the castle there is a small park of 2 hectares with chestnuts, which were the favorite trees of Irén Sacelláry.
Now the mansion is used for a lot of different events: weddings, conferences, business meetings, trainings and seminars, exhibitions and presentations.
